Nyeri AB is everything we love in a washed Kenyan coffee: juicy, clean, and electric. Expect vibrant fruit notes—nectarine, cola, blackberry jam, and green apple—wrapped in a sparkling, sugary finish reminiscent of apple jam.
This is Epoch's first Kenyan release in over 2 years. It is one of two lots selected by our Coffee Director and QC team, coming from a partnership with Cafe Imports that we have had for the last 5 years. Simon, our rep at Cafe Imports, is always working with Conor to bring some origins to Epoch that fall outside our normal purchasing/ purchasing style. We received over 40 Kenyan samples this year, but these two lots from Karimikui and Nyeri hit the mark! They are bright, juicy, with no hint of tomato/umami. Truly some Juice-Bombs.
Gatomboya factory is operated by the Barichu Farmer Cooperative Society in Nyeri, a region nestled between Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Mountains. Rich soils and glacial runoff make this region one of the best in the world for coffee. Farmers here work small plots of land, often growing macadamia, corn, bananas, and beans alongside their coffee. After harvesting, cherries are sorted, depulped, fermented overnight, washed, and dried on raised beds for 10–12 days.
This is a coffee for people who love sparkle in their cup. A true showcase of Kenya at its best.
